Empowering women to begin their journey into motherhood with confidence and strength.

“Do I need a doula?”
Do you have a vision for how you want to give birth? Research shows that having continuous support throughout labor increases the likelihood of positive birth outcomes. We were never meant to do this alone. We need the support of experienced women as we embark on the most impactful journey of our lives.

  • Being that this was my first baby, I had so many fears and questions of what to expect in the birth. Kara was so helpful from the beginning, with a kind demeanor and a gentle spirit. She gave me tools where I could learn about the intricacies of labor, birth and what to expect. My husband and I dived in and learned so much from her resources! When it was go time for baby, labor didn’t go as expected (does it ever?) but Kara was there as a support for when things got tough! I am so grateful for her support emotionally and physically.

  • I loved having Kara as my doula! Having prepared with her beforehand, I knew she understood what I wanted out of my birth experience and how she could be there for me. I wanted to have her around more than my husband at times! She's a quiet, strong presence that's supportive, encouraging, and kind. She was there for me during every stage of labor, and I'll forever be grateful for her support!

  • I was induced with my first two births, having an epidural at both. When I got pregnant with our third daughter, I knew I wanted her birth to be different than my others. Although I had thought about having a natural birth with my first two, I lacked the knowledge, support, and confidence to do it on my own. I absolutely could not have gotten through my birth if it weren’t for Kara. During my labor, she was the calming presence that I needed, while still helping me keep my goals in mind when things were getting tough. She advocated for me when I was unsure, but also let me make my own decisions without judgement. If you’re looking for a doula that will leave you feeling incredibly empowered, I cannot recommend Kara enough!

  • Kara is the real deal. She comes with knowledge, life experience and with whole heart. Kara entered our home and it’s as if there was a calmness that came along with her that could be felt by all of us. She helped me be a better assistant to my wife by showing me what I can be doing during her contractions to help ease any discomfort. If I were to think of three words to describe my experience with Kara, it would be “She was present.” In every sense of the word. She got quiet during every contraction and listened to my wife’s sounds. There she was able to help my wife change her breaths during contractions to ease things for her. She was present when my wife was getting back pains with every contraction and knew just where to apply pressure to alleviate pain. Kara was present, informative, reassuring and caring through all of it.

My Doula Services

  • Prenatal Sessions

We will meet about once a month after the time of hire. During these meetings we will discuss your desires for the birth, anything you would like to learn more about, address fears and concerns, nutrition, and the coping techniques we will use together during labor. It is important to me that we get to know each other and develop a trusting relationship before labor.

  • Birth

I will be on call for your birth starting at 36 weeks. Once you are in active labor and ready for my support I will join you either at home or the hospital. During labor I will support you as needed mentally, physically, and emotionally. If you are having a hospital birth I will be prepared to advocate for you and discuss your options with you. I will stay with you for the entire birth and a couple hours after, until you are settled and ready to rest.

  • Postpartum Support

I will visit you once during the first month postpartum to support you however you need. This could be going over the events of your birth together, basic breastfeeding support, baby wearing, holding the baby while you rest, light housekeeping, or preparing an herbal bath. I will also bring a meal from our Eden Homemade menu.

“The lack of trust in and care for our bodies can rob us of confidence in giving birth. Conversely, an experience of the phenomenal capacity of our birthing body can give us an enduring sense of our own power as women.”

— Dr. Sarah Buckley

Giving birth will be one of the most impactful moments of your life, and your baby’s. How you birth matters.

Most women will not have seen live birth before they give birth themselves. How are we supposed to know the beauty of allowing birth to unfold naturally, as it was meant to, if we haven’t seen it for ourselves? This is where birth education and support through pregnancy come in. I want you to thoughtfully prepare so that you can give your baby a peaceful start in life and yourself an empowering transition from maiden to mother.

I truly believe the world will be a better place if we support women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Women deserve to have someone in the room to advocate for them. To create space for them to be heard. To be there when she needs to be reminded that she CAN do this, that she was MADE to do this.

It is up to the mother to prepare herself, to take care of her body, mind, and heart during pregnancy, and she is the one who will bring her baby into this world. But she shouldn’t be expected to do it without guidance, support, and care.
